Data Model Overview

Data model section. Data administrator interface

Data model is a description of the informational data structure which determines how the data will be arranged and what properties it will have. In other words, how data from the database will fit into the Unidata platform. The data model consists of number of objects and relations between them.

In the “Data Model” section you can create and configure the following model objects:

  • Entity.
  • Lookup entity.
  • Entity/lookup entity attribute (as a nested object).
  • Complex attribute (as a nested object).

When you create a data model, consider the following features of the model objects:

  • An entity supports complex data structures through nested attributes and array attributes. You can create a relation that links the selected entity with another entity/lookup entity. Typically, entities are used to create a structure for frequently changing data. For example, data about customers, orders, or warehouse inventory.
  • A lookup entity supports simple data structures. All attributes of the lookup entity are located on the same level. Lookup entities also contain code attributes which make every record of the entity unique. Typically, lookup entities are used for rarely changing reference data. For example, a list of countries and country codes.
