Work with measurement units

Assign measurement units

Units of measurement is an additional parameter for numerical values of simple attributes that is used to describe measured quantities (for example, “mass units” or “weight measures”). A single base value is specified inside the measurement unit and the conversion rules (conversion of measurement values) to base value are applied.

Conversion rules are formulas for translating the values of measurement units.

Example. Base value: “Kilogram”. Conversion rule for the unit “Ton”: base value * 1000.

Units of measurement are used to search for records through attribute values that contain quantitative data, regardless of which measurement unit type. The search is performed in base measurement units, so you must enter the exact value or value range for the base unit into the search field.

Example. The “Spare parts” entity records have the “Mass” attribute, and this attribute can have different values (tons or grams) for different spare parts. However, the search will use base measurement units, i.e. kilograms, when searching for entity records.

Create measurement units

To create unit of measurement:

  • Go to the “Measurement units” section, if it is not currently open.
  • Click the “Create” button located in the lower-left corner of the screen in the measurement units list.
  • A window with unit parameters will open.
  • Fill in the main properties:
    • Name. This is a logical name. Use Latin alphabet during input. The name cannot be changed after saving.
    • Display name.
    • Custom properties. A list of parameters (the “name” – “value” pair) that contain additional text information. Parameters can be referenced by custom extensions and can also contain non-standard information from external systems.
  • Add the unit values (Figure1):
    • Click the “Add value” button located at the bottom of the “Unit structure” area.
    • Name of the measurement unit.
    • Set the Display name of the measurement unit.
    • Fill in the Conversion. The Conversion field must either have a specific value in the “value” field (as a base measurement unit) or a conversion formula to turn base unit into the required value. For example: value*75. The formula must fit the JavaScript syntax.
    • Select the Base flag for the base measurement unit. This flag is used to select only one type of measurement units and sets it as Base value. The base unit must only have the value “value” in the Conversion field.
    • Add more enumerations if necessary.
  • Click “Save” in the upper-right corner.

To edit measurement unit:

  • Select the desired unit from the list in the left part of the screen.
  • A window with enumeration parameters will open.
  • Select the desired line and edit it. Add or remove the units of measurement, if necessary.
    • The Name field cannot be edited because it is a system field (required for the data model).
  • Click “Save” in the upper-right corner.

To delete measurement unit:

  • Select the desired unit from the list in the left part of the screen.
  • Click Delete in the upper-right corner.
  • Confirm the action.
You cannot delete measurement units if they are used in entities/lookup entities.
